  • Intercessors for Australia. Lambert speaks on the relationship between modern Jews and Christians. He explores two aspects. (i) Why Christians have a responsibility toward the Jewish people and Israel: the Church owes a debt to the Jews, for through their rejection and fall came the reconciliation of the Gentiles. The New Testament authors and early Church leaders were predominantly Jewish, and the first missionaries to the Gentiles were Jewish believers. The Church must also acknowledge the harm done to the Jewish people in the name of the gospel. Moreover, Christians have been grafted onto the Jewish olive tree, as salvation is of the Jews, and it is God alone who grafts in or excludes. Jesus remains King of the Jews, and He will one day return to Jerusalem to institute His rule. (ii) The responsibility of Christians: to provoke the Jews to jealousy by living faithfully the life God has given us, and to show love toward the Jewish people. To intercede for the Jewish people in prayer. Finally, to be prepared to stand up for the Jewish people in times of persecution.
