“Divers Persons counted for Lollards, hanged and burned in the first year of the Reign of King Henry the V (1413).” Two groups of Lollards hang on separate sets of gallows. Four men stoke the fire beneath the hanging men while a fifth man sits on a horse and directs the action. This design is very similar to the original woodcut that appears in the second, third, and fourth early English editions (1570, 1576, 1583). However, the woodcut depicts the burning and hanging of martyrs under the reign of Henry I. Revised design of Luborsky and Ingram 11223/8. JPEG file (483 KB).
