  • Back of postcard reads: "The largest privately-supported and fully-accredited co-educational institution in Alabama, Howard was founded at Marion, Ala., in 1841, moved to the East Lake section of Birmingham in 1887, and to its present 400-acre campus in Shades Valley in 1957. An institution of the Alabama Baptist State Convention, the school features a strong liberal arts curriculum and is the home of historic Cumberland School of Law.�
