- 1861 Bond for $50.00 issued by the Confederate States of America. "This $50.00 bond dated July 11th, 1861, is the only one of its kind I have ever seen, and I cannot learn anything about it except that it was authorized by the Confederate Congress on Feb. 28 - 1861. Note that it was engraved in New Orleans and was prepared to be issued at Montgomery. The Capitol must have been moved to Richmond before the bond was delivered by the engravers, for when issued 'Montgomery' was stricken out and 'Richmond' inserted with pen and ink. Note, too, the Howell Cobb of Georgia whose likeness adorns the bond came very close to being President of the Confederate States of America." - William H. Brantley
