William E. Lesher (1932-2018) served as president of two Lutheran seminaries: Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (1973-1978) and the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago (1979-1997). Lesher was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received a political science degree from Wittenberg College in Springfield, Ohio, and graduated from Chicago Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1958. Prior to serving as associate professor of parish renewal at LSTC, he served as parish pastor in Chicago and St. Louis. After retirement, he served in various capacities with the Parliament of the World’s Religions, including chair of its board of trustees from 2003-2010.
