Description
  • Goldsworthy preaches on Solomon's construction of the Temple from 1Kings 5-7. Solomon's wisdom climaxes with the construction of the Temple, an expression of Solomon's fear of the Lord. The Temple was an expression of God's presence amongst the people. The construction represents a high point and redemptive goal of the Exodus event. 1 Kings 6:11 reveals God's perspective on the construction. The construction of the Temple and God's continued indwelling presence was connected to obedience by the Israelites to God's statues and decrees. The prophesised destruction of the building would find its ultimate fulfilment in the death of Christ. The restoration of the Temple is found in the resurrection of Christ. Christ is the faithful Son of David, who restores the Temple through the destruction of the old. Immanual ("God with us"), is inexplicably bound up with Christ. Obedience to the commands and decrees of God was only perfectly achieved and fulfilled by Christ. Justification is found in Christ's perfect work.
