Description
  • O’Brien preaches on the theme of permanence and stability based on Hebrews. The whole of creation is characterised by its temporary and transitory nature. In contrast, Christ remains the same for all of eternity. As high priest, Jesus acts as guarantor of a better covenant forever and permanently. Unlike the earthly priest, Jesus is capable of completely interceding on our behalf forever, saving us for eternity. The Resurrection is a guarantee of Jesus’ eternal priesthood. Despite the sufferings experienced by the Christian addressees of Hebrews, they were capable of rejoicing considering their loss due to their knowledge of the unmoveable possession in Christ. In consideration of creation’s eventual dissolution, the author highlights the unmoveable and unshakeable heavenly inheritance given to Christians. In response to the permanency of Jesus, the author encourages readers to continue steadfastly, setting their eyes on the true example of faithful endurance, Jesus.
