Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Duke University);Format: Manuscript codex.;Title supplied by cataloger.;Layout: Written in 2 columns of 31 lines. 31 lines ruled on the hair side running across the gutter.;Script: Written in a very small roundish regular cursive hand, suspended, with small rounded breathing marks with a slight inclination in the direction of the line of text; in brown ink, ca. A. D. 1000. There is a mixture of uncial and minuscule characters, notable lambda, kappa, pi, phi, delta and theta. The text appears to have been written by a very experienced scribe who writes clearly with separation between letters (average of 17 letters for 4 cm)--but not between words--and quite rapidly.;Decoration: Each work has been provided with ornamental scribal titles under Pi-shaped headpieces containing interlacing scrollwork, leaves and flowers in cream, green, red, and blue (fol. 1r, 22r, 25v, 42v and 54r). Ornamental colored initial letters begin each work. In the upper margin above the decorative headpiece in the scribal hand is the number of each logos. In the margins opposite the opening for each sermon, a later hand in very dark ink has supplied the number of the leaves in that section. The headpiece for each of the sections (fol. 9r: 70 x 98 mm) surrounds on three sides a trefoil (38 x 52 mm), opening at the bottom of the frame, and is filled with trailing vines and leaves culminating in blossoms encircled by tendrils of dark bluish green and tan back ground, ranging from medium yellow to medium olive brown now much flaked.;Title cataloged from existing description.;Binding: A modern binding of natural calf leather over binder's boards, with a center square panel tooled in blind. With recently added parchment (calf) endsheets, sewn very tightly on four raised cords and in the binding process heavily pressed. Some modern repairs to the corner of f. 1 at the tail and f. 18 at the head corner (50 x 10 mm). Ancient repairs to a hole in the parchment may be seen on f. 40 at the tail and on f. 49.
