Description
  • Webb speaks on the final judgement of God from Psalm 75:8-9. Verse 8 reveals the nearness of God's appointed time for judgement. God's judgement is comprehensive and inclusive of all the wicked. Number 5:16 describes a test for adultery in which the suspected woman is made to drink a cup of judgement, by the hand of the priest, to determine the truth of the matter. The image of God's wrath in the image of a cup of judgement is further used by Isaiah in 51:17. Jeremiah 29:15 speaks on the judgement cup reserved for the nations. Revelation 18 speaks on Babylon's final judgement via a double portion of God's wrath. The cup of judgement described in Psalm 75 is described to be within the hands of the Lord. God will bring to judgement the wrongs of the world. When God completes His judgement, all unsettled matters are judged. Sheltering in the provision of God's grace, Asaph praises God. For Christians, we have the knowledge that Christ has consumed our cup of judgement. There is no other place of refuge aside from the Cross. In response to this notion of judgement, we are to flee to the Cross. We are likewise called to preach the judgement of God. Finally, we should respond with thankfulness, like the people in the Psalm are, of God's redeeming work and salvation.
