Wontulp Bi Buya is a bible college for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. The college is based in North Cairns and has almost 100 students. Students come from all over Queensland and surrounding islands. The college equips Indigenous people with a knowledge and understanding of the gospel. One of the goals of the college is to empower the students to be leaders with faith, vision, and skill. The college also teaches the importance of sharing the knowledge gained at Wontulp with their people, church and community. Many former students report changes in their communities when they return home. Bible Society NSW supports Father Barry Peterson who teaches theology at Wontulp. Father Barry's role also includes creating training manuals on books of the bible; Christian teaching and nurturing Christian communities.
