- Moore College Annual Lectures 1978: We preach Christ Crucified - contemporary studies in the Eternal Gospel. Packer speaks on the penal substitutionary atonement of Jesus. The exchange includes a substitution, Christ substitutes in our place. An exchange, between our sins and Christ's righteousness. Within the New Testament, the Cross is associated with the symbols and terms sacrifice, ransom, victory, redemption, and propitiation. Central to all aspects of the Cross is the theme of substitution. Satisfaction invokes the thought that Christ did all that needed to be done in order for our sins to be put away from God's sight. Packer then defends the scriptural basis of penal substitutionary atonement.
