  • [Gloucester], [1873-1874] For soprano, alto, tenor and bass, and organ. Caption title supplied in later hand. Anthem B (22 p.) composed in 1874; Anthem A (15 p.) composed in 1873. Text: Ecclesiasticus 44:1-15 (KJV). Scores bound in one volume with title: Commemoration anthems Dr. Wesley, M.S.S. Written by Samuel Sebastian Wesley especially for the annual Commemoration service at Clifton College, Bristol. Later titles supplied in manuscript by W.F. Trimell, presenter of manuscripts to Clifton College; bookplate: Ex libris bibliothecae scholae Cliftonensis. Heavily annontated for publication as No. 14 of the "Collegiate Series." Anthem A (so designated on score) published by Novello, Ewer & Co. and Weekes & Co. first in 1874; new edition prepared by John E. West, issued in 1926. Anthem B (so designated "more difficult" on score) published in folio format by Novello, Ewer & Co and Weekes & Co 1875. Advertised in 'The Musical Times' February 1875.
