Description
  • The Battle of Chancellorsville took place from April 30 to May 6, 1863. Though considered to be a Confederate victory, the battle was a costly one, resulting in the death of Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson by friendly fire. A. D. C. writes “Gen Jackson, Gen A.P. Hill and nearly all of their staff were wounded, but that was owing to an accident in being mistaken and fired upon by a H. C. Brigade. The North Carolina troops are famous for making such mistakes and this time it was a serious one to us indeed.”
