Dumbrell discusses the law and the prophets in Matthew 5:17-19. Jesus teaches that His appearance was not to destroy the letter and spirit of the Law. He did not come to either to breach the Law nor its wider prophetic application. Matthew 11:13 reveals the prophetic aspect of the Law. Although Jesus perfectly fulfilled the Law, Jesus is more concerned in Matthew 5:17-19 in explaining the relationship of the Law with the Christian believer. Old Testament prophecy and law are finalised and realised in Jesus. Within Isaiah 2, the Torah/Law is depicted as flowing out of the city of Zion. The end of the age can therefore be viewed as the final consummation of God's purposes.
