  • Lithograph of William Kiffin. 1881. During the year 1616, William Kiffin was born in London. He joined the Baptist church in 1638. When that church established a new church in Devonshire Square in 1640, Kiffin was elected pastor. He held that position for 61 years. Kiffin was arrested many times, often on false charges of conspiracy against the king. For over 50 years, he was the father of English Baptists. Kiffin died on September 29, 1701. JPG file (376 KB)
