Description
  • Condie continues his series exploring Ecclesiastes by exploring the value or profit to be gained from life. Carefully investigating all avenues and experience of life, the Teacher finds that all result in meaningless and a waste of time. Wisdom and folly are diametrically opposed yet result in the same end - death. Toil and work likewise results in the toil of our labours in the hands of others. The Teacher recommends enjoyment within the present moment, appreciating the gifts of God. We can dishonour God when we do not appreciate the gifts He has given to us today. The danger of looking to the future is to ignore the present joys and gifts. In light of God's redemptive history, we can understand sin behind the problems of the world explained by the Teacher in Ecclesiastes. As Christians, we live in tension as we understand the future redemption found in Christ.
