John Frith and Andrew Hewet, hands folded as in prayer, stand back-to-back and tied to the stake. An active and rowdy crowd gathers around the two men as onlookers look out the windows of the buildings in the background. The man in the lower right corner of the image prepares to ignite the faggots with a torch; a richly-dressed man on horseback is portrayed in the lower left-hand corner of the image. Heavily revised version of Luborsky and Ingram 11222/17 and 11223/47, which appear in all four of the early English editions (1563, 1570, 1576, 1583). JPEG file (441 KB).
