  • A native of Toronto, Robert Arnott (1922-2001) was an Old Testament scholar who earned a doctorate from the University of Chicago in 1959. He became head pastor at First Baptist Church of Los Angeles in 1960. Arnott left First Baptist to become president of the Berkeley Baptist Divinity School, where he served from 1964 to 1967. During that time he helped form the Graduate Theological Union. Arnott next became a professor of church management and director of field education at the Claremont School of Theology from 1967 until his retirement in 1988.
