Lawton preaches on the power of God as Creator from Jeremiah 18:1-6. Throughout the book, God's faithfulness to His Covenantal promises. The Israelites in the time of Jeremiah turned away from God to serve idols. Jeremiah warns the Israelite against the danger of such practices. The one coherent theme found throughout the book is the necessity for the people of God to have God's word as their guiding principle in their thinking, teaching, and practice. The Israelites are compared to clay at the hands of their Creator and are called back to Him. Jeremiah sees the guiding hand of God shaping and moving the nation of Israel. Clay itself cannot make anything of its own efforts. The hand of God fashions and makes us. God's love, compassion, selflessness teaches us these qualities. We are fashioned by God to be His children. God corrects, changes, molds us throughout our lives. God never leaves us alone. Through God's handiwork, we are made children of God.
