  • John Dillenberger (1918-2008) was one of the founders of the Graduate Theological Union. Arriving in the area to teach at San Francisco Theological Seminary, he became assistant dean of the GTU in 1963 and served as dean from June 1, 1963 to July 1971. He held the additional title of GTU President from 1967 until he left these administrative posts in 1971. He served as acting president of GTU in 1999. He earned a BA from Elmhurst College, BDiv from Union Theological Seminary in New York City and a PhD from Columbia University (1948). His best known books included Protestant Christianity (1954) with Claude Welch , and A Theology of Artistic Sensibilities (1986).
