Paul presents the Philippians a model for Christian behaviour through the process of imitation. The leader's example, embodied throughout his entire life, forms an example for the Christian congregation to follow and imitate. The Christian life should be characterised by joyfulness grounded in God. Forbearance or moderation is expressed by the Christian by an attitude of acceptance of the other and through meekness. The Christian attitude to life should be shaped by the coming judgement and rule of God. Through prayer characterised by an attitude of thanksgiving, the Christian brings their worries and anxieties before God. The Christian is commanded to think on matters that relate to God, on matters that influence their relationships with others, and on matters that influence their interaction with the world.
