- Withycombe preaches on the theme of joy. Based on Philippians, the relationship between Paul and the Philippian church was characterised by a deep emotional connection. Paul’s prayer of thanksgiving (1:9-11) reflected the joyful relationship shared between Paul and the local Philippian church. Paul’s thanksgiving is ultimately derived from observation of the Philippian’s fellowship in the gospel. The Philippian’s giving represented their spiritual and physical concern for Paul and his mission. Paul delights in seeing the Philippians partnering with him in the mission to the gentiles.
