Mascord preaches on the theme of love for the world based on 1 John 2: 15-17. Unlike a gnostic view of the world, the Apostle does not intend to command Christians to take an anti-materialistic view of the world and its contents. Rather, John seeks to warn Christians about falling for a worldly perspective of passions, values, and objects to desire present within our current world. For the Christian, worldly love is incompatible with love for God. To love God draws Christians to love others. As we love, we are reminded that love of worldly passions and objects are temporary, whilst love for God is eternal.
