Description
  • Hill speaks on the topic of praise based on Psalm 40. The Psalmist has waited for the response of God in a time of great distress. In response, God has raised up the Psalmist and saved him. God inspired the Psalmist to sing a new song of praise. Throughout the Old Testament, songs often relay the salvation experienced at the hands of God. In this situation, the message is Spirit-inspired and served as a testimony to others. The Psalmist counts the miraculous deeds done for him alongside the collective experience of Israel from God. The Psalmist, out of joy, brings a record of this salvific act for all to see and to be strengthened in their faith. The faithful is joyful to do God’s will and listen to His word. The experience of the love and grace of God has evidently changed the intentions and attitudes of the Psalmist and spurred them to bear witness to God’s righteousness. In this instance, God’s righteousness is the deed of salvation. We can likewise share in experiences of smaller episodes of salvation that ultimately point to the ultimate salvation offered on the Cross. Like the Psalmist, we will be drawn witness towards the congregation the awesome and wonderful acts of God and seek to be joyfully obedient to the word of God. Hill encourages listeners to be observant of small examples in life that point our attention to the unconditional love of God revealed in the Cross.
