• Lawton preaches on the theme of ministry to the congregation based on Jeremiah 1:4-10. The word of God takes hold of people and challenges their values. It is the word of God which changes our lives and is fundamental to ministry. Verse 4, 11 and 3 repeat the same theme of God's word. The word of God is something that takes hold of us. Throughout the entirety of Biblical salvation history, the word of God played a fundamental role. Jeremiah 23:25-32 describes the situation of false words spoken by prophets. By lying words, the prophets sought to mislead the people. The preoccupation of Jeremiah involved the calling back of the people back to God's word. The word of God placed on Jeremiah's lips were capable of building up and tearing down.
