- From the November 19, 1976 edition of 'The Crimson': "Samford students buried a time capsule to be opened in the year 2000 to mark the official close of Samford's Bicentennial observance in October. Here, student body president Gary Barkley lowers the capsule of 1976 memorabilia into a concrete encasement near the library, with help from Samford Bicentennial chairman Margaret Sizemore and President Leslie S. Wright."
