This was the first T. V. A. Dam and was begun in 1918 as a Government project to produce military explosives. The T. V. A. has developed the Tennessee River for power, flood control, and navigation with a series of dams and locks giving a 9' navigable depth for 630 miles from Paducah, Ky. to Knoxville, Tenn.
