  • Tooher gives an overview of chapter 1 to provide context for chapter 2. She focuses on the instructions for women, but also briefly looks at the passages for men and slaves. Tooher explains that the overall instructions are for self-control for all of these groups. For the older women : 1. Don't promote scandals with your words 2. Not to be addicted to wine For younger women : 1. Love your husband and children 2. The value of being a wife and mother Tooher then briefly touches on men and slaves. She then looks at why we live with grace, whilst critiquing universalism. Tooher describes this as self-controlled, upright and godly. She examines what it means to live with hope.
