Description
  • Peterson preaches on the theme of success in Christian ministry based on Philippians 2: 19-24. As Paul's co-worker, Timothy shows genuine concern for the Philippian's welfare, placing the interests of Christ over his own. In ministry, workers can easily fall into sinfulness and seek to glorify their own interests rather than to serve and uplift others. The job itself becomes the mean to satisfy the ego needs of the self. Personal agendas can take control over theological agendas. Often such decisions are 'cloaked' in theological terms. For the theological student, academic rivalry and success, alongside desire for choice ministry positions, easily lead to these selfish ambitions and self-glorification. Timothy had demonstrated his proven-worthwhile and trustworthy throughout trial and challenge. Alongside Paul, Timothy was a slave for the message of the gospel. Today, ministers should seek the concerns of others above themselves, working alongside other co-workers for the glory of God.
