Hill speaks on Romans 3:21-8:39. Earlier in the letter, Paul presents humanity’s desperate situation, under separated from and under the wrath of God. From this situation, the gospel is the only effective solution by which God redeems and rescues His people. Through the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed. Regarding righteousness, Paul means an activity of God by which people are brought into a right relationship with God. Christ’s atoning sacrifice is the method through which the believer is declared righteous. To be justified entails God acquitting humanity of the charges of rebellion and violation of His order. Ultimately, one is ransomed through the payment of Jesus’ sacrifice. Paul outlines in chapter 4 the life of Abraham as a clear demonstration of justification by faith alone. In chapters 5:1-11, Paul highlights the blessings of justification for the believer including the peace of God and the hope of glory. Jesus’ death overcomes our rebellion. By trusting in the ruler, we declare our allegiance in God. The believer looks forward to the future reality of dwelling with God in right relationship in glory. In the meantime, as believers (expressed in chapter 8), mind is transformed they wait for their bodies to be transformed in a present world filled with experiences of suffering. No matter the situation, the believer can see the truth of God’s love for us expressed in the Cross of Christ. The thing that secures our faith is the death and resurrection of Jesus.
