Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Duke University);Format: Manuscript Codex.;Title supplied by cataloger.;Layout: Written in 1 column of 18 lines; ruled for 19 lines, with a fine dry point on the hair side.;Script: A finely executed small, tightly written cursive, slanting slightly to the right, pendant, done with a fine nibbed reed pen.;Decoration: Decorative canon tables. Ornamental headpieces are provided for the opening of each of the Gospels. The ornamental head-piece for Mark, topped in the center of the bar by a floral finial, is filled with geometrical alternating circles and lozenges filled with quadrapatite floral ornament in the lozenges and hexapartite within the circles. Evangelists' portraits of Matthew, seated in a high-back chair, copying the text, reading stand before him, facing the opening of the Gospel, and now badly flaked; St. Mark seated, facing the opening of the Gospel, reading; St. Luke seated, facing the opening of the Gospel, teaching; and St. John seated, facing away from the opening of the Gospel, teaching. Penwork ornament is used frequently to mark the beginning and the ending of the Gospel equipment and is almost always done in red.;Arabic inscription of three lines are found in lower margin of fol. 5r (at beginning of the Gospel of St. Matthew) and at fol. 316v in fixed calendar.;Title cataloged from existing description.;Four Gospels with Eusebian canon tables and liturgical calendar; Ammonian section numbers, canon numbers light red in the margins; marks such as < and a variety of signes de renvoie are used in the margins to indicate Old Testament citations; lectionary aids in the text.;Binding: Byzantine binding is fragmentary, lacking the upper cover and the spine.
