Description
  • Dumbrell explores the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount from Matthew 5:3. The verse represents the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry, as recounted in the Gospel of Matthew. In the previous passage (4:12-25), Jesus is presented as the climactic fulfilment of the eschatological promises contained within Isaiah. For both Luke and Matthew, Jesus’ ministry begins with a statement on the fulfilment of promises within Isaiah. The previous passage depicts Jesus’ preaching itinerant ministry, and the subsequent movement of people to see Him. A direct parallel can be made between Jesus and the ministry of Moses. Blessing was traditionally viewed as the prerogative of the divinity and was considered effective and sure. proclaims a definite reversal of fortunes for many. Jesus describes the nature of life and lot of those who follow God.
