Lithograph of David Burcham Ray. 1881. On March 30, 1830, David Burcham Ray was born in Hickman, Kentucky. Following his conversion, he was baptized on October 16, 1844. Following his ordination in 1856, Ray worked in Kentucky and Tennessee until 1870, when he became editor of the Baptist Sentinel. In 1873 he became pastor at La Grange, Missouri. There he remained until 1880, when he moved to St. Louis. He studied at the Clinton Seminary in Kentucky until health problems forced him to leave school. Ray is noted for two primary works: Text-Book on Campbellism (1867) and Baptist Succession (1870). He died in 1922. JPG file (332 KB)
