Description
  • Mims Jemison entered military service in 1836 to fight in the Second Seminole War in Florida. Jemison writes in the will “Having entered into the services of my county against the Seminole Indians, in which I may perish – Be it therefore known to all whom it may concern that I do make and ordain this instrument to be my last will and testament.” Jemison would die in combat during the war, evidenced by the affidavit and executor’s bond signed after Mims’ death by family members, including Robert Jemison, Jr., Mims Jemison’s brother and Alabama business magnate and politician.
