Photograph of Thomas J. Dill, faculty chairman. In the 1887-1888 academic year, Dill performed many of the duties of University President, including making the formal report to the Alabama Baptist State Convention. However, there is no evidence that he was ever given the official title of University President. In his address to the Alabama Baptist State Convention, he urged the Convention to hire a University President. The convention did so the following year. Some lists of Samford University presidents include Dill, but currently he is not considered a University President, as he never held the title.
