Description
  • In his second lecture, titled “The New Covenant,” Dumbrell turns to Revelation 21:3, which echoes the language of both the original Sinai covenant and the promised New Covenant. He frames the discussion around four key questions: How did the prospect of the New Covenant arise? Why was it necessary? How did it take shape? And what Old Testament presuppositions lay behind it? Jeremiah 31:31-34 provides a theological description of the New Covenant. Jeremiah is twice called to become a prophet to the nations. It is therefore impossible to interpret the message of the book without this call to mind. Jeremiah's book is to be considered a herald of a new age of the Gentiles and the end of the age of Israelite nationalism.
