Description
  • Moore College Annual Lectures 1979: The Doctrine of God in Holy Scripture lecture 2. Knox speaks on the topic of God's ultimate power, goodness, and wisdom. God's power is expressed in Creation. Whatever is willed by God comes to pass, and nothing comes to pass except in accordance with His will; God's will is characterised by consistency. God's power extends over evil wills. The doctrine of God's absolute and complete providence and control over every event is ground for banishing fear from the hearts of the people of God. Knox then explores the doctrine of God's judgement. Judgement is a central message of the Bible, closely linked with the doctrine of Creation, with both being central to the gospel message. God is everlasting, without body, parts or passions. God is likewise assessed as being of infinite goodness. Creation exemplifies God's goodness and should draw humanity to thanksgiving. As Creator, God is within a covenantal relationship with Creation. In fulfilling His covenantal relationship, God expresses His faithfulness. God's relationship to humanity is one of complete responsibility for all aspects of our lives. In response, humanity should seek to obey God and honour Him in everything. Finally, God is of infinite wisdom. God's knowledge extends to all infinite possibilities and the actuality of all reality. His infinite knowledge coupled with His infinite power and infinite goodness means that He has infinite wisdom. God's wisdom is manifested in Creation, being ultimately expressed in redemption and restoration. Jesus identifies Himself as the wisdom of God, which is expressed through the Cross and through the administration of salvation. The infinite wisdom of God is completing His purposes of blessing and salvation.
