Description
  • Goldsworthy preaches on the nature of the gospel based on Romans 1:1. Paul characterises his role as a servant, Apostle, and someone set-apart for the gospel. Paul's very self-identity is closely related to gospel ministry. As a servant, Paul has transferred the Old Testament title of Servant of God to his own ministry. As Apostle, Paul identifies the gospel's authority as something from God. As someone set apart for the gospel, Paul understood his ministry shaped by the gospel. How someone understands the gospel will shape and motivate their way of living and thinking. Paul identifies the gospel as derived from, and about God. To question the nature of the gospel requires one to question the nature of God. Paul sees the gospel as God's power for salvation; God is a powerfully rescuing God. In rescuing believers, God displays His righteousness. God has revealed His wrath against all those who supress the truth. God must rescue people from Himself if He is to be considered a rescuing God. The problem which the gospel addresses is God's problem. God's problem includes the challenge of remaining just and simultaneously justifying the ungodly. The gospel of God is the proclamation of God. The gospel is the most profound wisdom. It is God's proclamation about God. The gospel shows us the true problem and how God addressed it.
