Description
  • Featured in this section is the cry of a man who has been abandoned and has experienced ministry failure. Jeremiah appears to have come to the conclusion that God has abandoned him. For Christian leaders today, incorrect standards are often used as measures of success. Biblical success depends entirely upon allegiance and reliance upon God, regardless of outward signs. In his prayers, Jeremiah casts his frustrations and emotions upon God. He calls upon God to remember him and the call God placed on his life for ministry. God is always the one who remembers and honours His call; He has not called us only to abandon us. For Jeremiah, isolation comes as a result of his calamity. He has learned that the man of God is called to stand alone against the world, upheld by the grace of God. The one who stands alone is then empowered to be God's spokesperson. For the Christian minister, there is always the temptation to be satisfied with mere outward acquiescence to ministerial responsibility. Lawton challenges his listeners, like Jeremiah, to be gripped by the word of God and to take it seriously with integrity and constancy.
