  • Photograph of Lee Rutland Scarborough. 1923. Lee Rutland Scarborough was born on July 4, 1870, in Colfax, Louisiana. During his early childhood his family moved to Texas. At 22 he received his A.B. from Baylor University. After graduation he taught at Baylor for one year, before teaching in public schools for two years. In 1895 he spent a year studying law at Yale, during which time he decided to preach. The next year he was ordained pastor of the church at Cameron, Texas. In 1901 he became pastor at Abilene, Texas, where he remained for 7 years. Scarborough accepted the chair of Evangelism at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1908. In this position he remained until 1914, when he was selected to be president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He died on April 10, 1945. (page 360 of BB v. 3) JPG file (742 KB)
