Description
  • Lithograph of Richard Fuller. 1881. During April of 1804, Richard Fuller was born in Beaufort, South Carolina. He entered Harvard University in 1820, but dropped out prior to graduating due to health concerns. After finishing his education in Beaufort, he worked as an accomplished lawyer until his conversion at a revival led by Rev. Daniel Barker. He was then re-baptized into the Baptist denomination. Fuller served as pastor of churches in Savannah, Georgia, and Beaufort, South Carolina, during which time he engaged in religious debate with individuals of other denominations. One such debate on slavery was with Rev. Dr. Wayland. Fuller was a slave owner. In 1836 he visited Europe for health reasons. He was called to a church in Baltimore in 1846, where he remained until his death on October 20, 1876. JPG file (353 KB)
