Lithograph of Francis Wayland. 1881. Born in New York City, March 11, 1796. He graduated from Union College where he completed his medical studies. In 1816 he entered the Andover Theological Seminary, and in 1821 was called to pastor the First Baptist church in Boston. In 1827, he became president of Brown University, staying there until his retirement in 1855. He died on September 30, 1865. JPG file (351 KB)
