Description
  • Harding preaches on Psalm 123 on the theme of pilgrimage. For the ancient Israelite, pilgrimage was an expectation 3 times a year during the Passover, the Festival of Weeks, and the Festival of Tabernacles. Psalms 120-124 are ascribed as 'Songs of Ascents,' most likely sung by pilgrims on their pilgrimage to Jerusalem. For Psalm 123, sombre in tone, focuses upon the Pilgrim's reliance upon God as king. God is recognised as provider, nourisher, wise, and loving. The Israelites understood their utter reliance upon God. Verses 1-2 reveal an appetite and yearning for God to continue His presence and continued care. Verses 3-4 reveal the Pilgrim's (and in extension, Israel's) circumstances. Psalm 123 mirrors our current experience as we walk with God.
