<p> Two documents dated 19 August 1818, Clarke County, Mississippi Territory, constituting a marriage indenture, essentially a marriage contract </p> <br> <p> The first document shows that the groom-to-be, John Drinkard, made a $200 bond that there is no impediment why he (Drinkard) should not marry. </p> <br> <p> The second document is a license to “any licensed minister of the Gospel, any Justice of the Peace or Quorum, or any Judge of the Superior Court” to perform the marriage. John Drinkard married Margaret McClure, also from Clarke County. </p>
