John Goose, fully clothed and with his arms outstretched in supplication, is tied to the stake by a chain around his waist. Bundles of faggots surround him, but no flame or torches are portrayed. Two men kneel in front of Goose, one to his left and one to his right, and both men have their arms outstretched toward him. A crowd of soldiers and civilians looks on. In the four early English editions (1563, 1570, 1576, 1583), the woodcut appears three times to represent the burning of three separate men. This is a revision of Luborsky and Ingram 11223/16, yet is different from the revisions of this image represented by the burnings of William Tailor, William White, and Richard Houeden.
