In Judges 10, the Israelites adopted local religious practices and idol worship and were judged by God. In response to this punishment, Israel’s repentance led God to raise Jephthah as judge against the Ammonites. Jephthah’s vow expressed his total commitment to God through an unwarranted and unnecessary oath. His life and career show him to be a man of perception; one whose trust was wholly in God. Despite his weaknesses and shortcomings, Jephthah stands as an example to be remembered as an ancestor within the family of God.
