Thomas Man, bald and with a long beard, stands fully clothed chained to the stake. His head is bowed and his hands are clasped in prayer. He is the only figure in the image and is surrounded by flames and clouds of smoke. In earlier editions, the burning of Thomas Man only appears in the third early English edition (1576) and is represented by Luborsky and Ingram 11223/14, which is the same woodcut used to represent various other martyrdoms and includes other people in the scene.
