Nina Miglionico was the valedictorian of the Howard College class of 1933 and was the first woman to be elected to the Birmingham City Council. In 1970, Miglionico was awarded Samford's Alumni of the Year award, along with Harold Martin. Angie Grooms Proctor was the second woman to be elected to the Birmingham City Council.
