  • Photograph of James B. Gambrell. 1923. James B. Gambrell was born in Anderson, South Carolina, on August 21, 1841. He was ordained to Baptist ministry in 1867. Married Mary T. Gambrell. Editor of the Baptist Record for 15 years. President of Mercer University, Georgia for 3 years. Active in the American Baptist Education Society. Corresponding Secretary of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He was president of the Southern Baptist Convention and a professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary when he died June 10, 1921 in Texas. JPG file (309 KB)
