Description
  • Paul recognised God’s purposes for him in ministry and sought to continue his work through his letter to the Romans. Like Paul, ministers today must fully commit themselves to God’s call to mission. Paul’s gospel is centred on the person of Jesus and the announcement that He is Lord over the universe. This kingship also carries the role of judge: He will establish righteousness and judge the living and the dead. In Him, all believers receive the forgiveness of sins. The message of the gospel is universal in scope, for all people. Paul expresses his unshakable dedication to preaching the gospel, regardless of the shame that may come. To the world, the gospel appears as foolishness, and believers often feel ashamed to declare it. Yet we must remember that the gospel is the power of God for those who believe. In it we find joy, peace, love, and the promise of a changed life. Through the Spirit, believers are empowered to bear fruit. In presenting the gospel, believers must resist the temptation to water it down or focus only on its by-products. The Apostles never deviated from preaching Christ crucified and risen. Consistent with Old Testament prophecy in Isaiah, the gospel was first proclaimed to the Jews, and then to the Gentiles.
